Huddle Up!

The Pre- and Post-Game Huddles are modeled after the basic structure of sports and recreational activities as familiar to children and teens. During the Pre-Game Huddle, instructors and recreation leaders engage students in discussing the specific rules of the activity, reviewing how the larger classroom rules apply to the activity, and set consequences and rewards for breaking rules during play. While students participate in the game or activity, and instructors and staff monitor actively to watch for rule breaks and teachable moments to review in Post-Game Huddle. The Post-Game Huddle invites students to talk about what did and did not go well during play, and staff encourage deep learning and generalization by connecting the activity to the Leadership Skills.
